Sitting smack under the tropic of Capricorn, Mauritius offers an all year round subtropical climate. There are two seasons, summer from November to April and winter from May to September. It can get very humid during the summer and wet during the winter. A lot of rain during the winter months keeps the island irrigated for its sugar industry. Being so close to the cost of Africa, Mauritius does have the occasional tropical cyclones, 2-4 a year. Mauritius depends heavily on Tourism to survive, the more (richer) the tourist the more GDP they make per year as those high class tourists spends more. Since the last tactic by the MTPA and to enhance tourism from European countries such as France, 'Mauritius Sans Passport' meaning 'Mauritius Without Passport' has been a good help to generate a constant flow of tourists. With an industry average growth of +7.3% for the period extending from January to March 2010 compared to same frame in 2009 it was a hard hit on the entire island tourism.
The best month to visit Mauritius is May, Mauritius at this time has a cooler temperature, the rain diminishes and the humidity becomes bearable. That is if you are only looking forward to lying on the beach and enjoying your time off or your Mauritius honeymoon. Mauritius has some of the most beautiful beaches, not according to the Travel National Geographic 2010 Top Beach List as Mauritius was not listed. But rest assured, the island does have some of the most amazing beaches. Le Morne Peninsula is one of them, Tamarin Baie, Ile aux Cerfs, Cap Malheureux and Grand Baie public beach although crowded and narrow it offers the best island bathing and swimming.
If you are after some Deep Sea Fishing then the best operators are based in Black River and in Trou aux Biches. Better fishing occurs in the summer (October to February) and best towards the end of Summer (March to May) but never the less deep sea fishing can be practised all year around. Le Morne Anglers Club is host to the World Cup Tournament held annually in Mauritius. Full days and days are usually available for pax of 4-6 people, this includes soft drinks and water but do bring your own lunch box. If hiking is your kind of tropical adventure, then Mauritius has magnificent lush mountains and trails to enjoy. Yanature is now one of Mauritius most respected and demanded trekking guide. Most hotels can pre book these activities for you. You have not seen the true beauty of Mauritius and your Mauritius resort if you have not gone on a parasailing trip. You will get a bird eye view of Mauritius most beautiful lagoons and beaches. You will be towed by a speed boat from the shore of your resorts and will fly 300 meters along the coast line. Do take your camera with you and shoot away.
